When trying to build a new kernel vor my XEN DomU I get the following error: LD vmlinux.o MODPOST vmlinux.o WARNING: modpost: Found 6 section mismatch(es). To see full details build your kernel with: 'make CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH=y' GEN .version CHK include/generated/compile.h UPD include/generated/compile.h CC init/version.o LD init/built-in.o LD .tmp_vmlinux1 arch/x86/built-in.o: In function `xen_hvm_post_suspend': (.text+0x2ace): undefined reference to `xen_unplug_emulated_devices' make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1 This happened with gentoo-sources 2.6.37 and 2.6.38 and with vanilla sources 2.6.37 (did not test 2.6.38 yet). I have no problems with gentoo-sources 2.6.36. When I google for the error message I get 4 hits, 3 chinese pages I do not understand and 1 pastebin with the title "gentoo-sources-2.6.37 fails to build" or something like that. I tried: linux-2.6.37-gentoo-r4 linux-2.6.38-gentoo-r1

the function "void xen_unplug_emulated_devices()" is inside an ifdef: #ifdef CONFIG_XEN_PVHVM thus, you must have it set in your .config, but I don't see it... trying adding it to your .config, and I think it'll fix your problem... CONFIG_XEN_PVHVM=y and here's the commit that introduced the new CONFIG option: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=ca65f9fc0c447da5b270b05c41c21b19c88617c3
1) I don't think I'm supposed to set that option, since it's not available in menuconfig. 2) If I set CONFIG_X86_LOCAL_APIC, CONFIG_XEN_PVHVM is set automatically. 3) This seems to be fixed in 2.6.39 (git-sources rc_2-git1 is the version I tried). 4) It's a bug nevertheless and might hit people when this goes stable.
Created attachment 269311 [details, diff] CONFIG_XEN_PVHVM patch yes, PVHVM depends on LOCAL_APIC... anyway, it's just a workaround to make the kernel build... but you're right, it is fixed in .39 rcs... here's the patch, if anyone wants to include it to gentpaches...
