Description jcat 2011-03-05 22:52:06 UTC
When I create a new user on the system, log in as that user, and configure evolution for the first time with a simple local mail account, the contacts are unusable.

The first time evolution is launched, if I click on Contacts, there is no "On This Computer" menu with a personal address book.
The second time I launch evolution, the "On This Computer" menu is there with an address book, but I can't make any new contacts. The context menu option is greyed out, and the new contact button simply does nothing.

Evolution reports an error "Unable to open address book"

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create new user
2. Log into gnome
3. Launch Evolution
4. Try and create new contacts

Actual Results:
New contacts buttons do nothing, so contacts can't be created.

Expected Results:
New contacts buttons should open a "New Contact" dialogue box.

GUI ERROR:

This address book cannot be opened. Please check that the path /home/test/.local/share/evolution/addressbook/system exists and that permissions are set to access it.

Detailed error message: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gnome.evolution.dataserver.AddressBook: Timeout was reached

TERMINL/CLI ERROR:

What errors do you get in terminal when running evolution? Please also try rebuilding "dbus-glib" and rebooting

The terminal error was already posted above, but here it is again:

(evolution:15230): libebook-WARNING **: e-book.c:3079: cannot activate book:
Error calling StartServiceByName for
org.gnome.evolution.dataserver.AddressBook: Timeout was reached

I've just tried rebuilding dbus-glib and rebooting, but it has not helped.

Cheers,
jcat

Is it the only message shown in terminal when running evolution? Please attach ~/.xsession-errors file

I have the same bug here on my ~x86 system. If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. I have the same errors as reported by jcat.
