As per what I have seen in bug #266295, the fontconfig file describes the fonts used and searched for by icedtea. Nevertheless, icedtea does not depend on media-fonts/dejavu which provide the files such as in filename.DejaVu_Sans=/usr/share/fonts/dejavu/DejaVuSans.ttf Probably one more dependency to add. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install icedtea6-bin, without media-fonts/dejavu 2. Browse to http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml Actual Results: The applet runs, but only a small fraction of the letters appear, and are very badly displayed Expected Results: All text should display correctly.
Dejavu is the default font used by icedtea. Added dejavu as a dependency with use X, other fonts with use X and use cjk. Fixed in icedtea-bin-6.1.10.4-r1.ebuild icedtea-bin-7.2.0-r2.ebuild icedtea-6.1.10.4-r2.ebuild and icedtea-7.2.0-r2.ebuild. Thanks for the report.
