lirc-0.8.7 is out since Sept. 06 2010. For me it was enough to rename lirc-0.8.7_pre1.ebuild to lirc-0.8.7.ebuild. It compiles with kernel sources 2.6.35 (not like 0.8.7_pre1) Reproducible: Always
lirc-0.8.7 is required for 2.6.36, would be nice if it finds its way into portage.
got a new serialcable for my atric ir setup yesterday and played a bit with lirc: although 0.8.7 merges fine it doesn't work with 2.6.36 as-is (f.e. lirc modules can't load). in-kernel modules though detect the ir correctly and create a /dev/lirc0 but the lircd daemon fails to initialize. so I built the current 0.9 git trunk manually and copied the binaries manually over the merged ones. after a reboot lirc works as it should using the init scripts. as neither a quick&dirty backport patch of the git changes into 0.8.7 nor a selfrolled snapshot of lirc-git worked when merged with changed ebuilds (maybe cflags, haven't checked) maybe we need to wait for a working official 0.9.0 snapshot for 2.6.36. just my two cents, maybe someone has some use for it to get lirc working with .36.
lirc-0.9.0-pre1 is released. it works fine on my 2.6.36 machine with lirc-drivers built in the kernel, when I enable LIRC_DEVICES="serial". this also installs the lirc kernel-modules lirc_dev and lirc_serial which are not required/used. not setting any LIRC_DEVICES leads to a non-working lircd
