Description Tobias Leupold 2010-08-11 20:58:19 UTC
Hi!

When I boot my x86 system, consolekit seems to start normally. Then, HAL needs a long time to start, but also seems to start. KDM does also start normally.

But after a login, KDM says "Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Activation of org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit timed out", but KDE starts anyway. wicd-client says "arguments to dbus_connection_ref() were incorrect, assertion "connection != NULL" failed" and does not start.

/etc/init.d/consolekit status says "status: crashed".

I don't find any hint what's wrong with consolekit at the moment. I updated to the latest stable portage tree, re-built consolekit, dbus and hal and did a revdep-rebuild. Nothing helped.
Interestingly, the problem does not exist on my amd64 machine with the very same setup.

The used versions are:

sys-apps/dbus-1.2.24
sys-apps/hal-0.5.14-r2
sys-auth/consolekit-0.4.1
net-misc/wicd-1.7.0
kde-base/kdm-4.4.5

My emerge --info (on the x86 machine) is:

Portage 2.1.8.3 (default/linux/x86/10.0/desktop, gcc-4.4.3, glibc-2.11.2-r0, 2.6.32.9 i686)

Somewhere in the forums, I found the hint to re-compile dbus-glib. I did so and it fixed the problems on both machines. I don't know why or how a "normal" user could get this idea … but at leat, it works ;-)
