The current upstream pixman stable releases 0.18.x provide much better performance: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg-announce/2010-April/001288.html Also stabilization should fix some of the problems at least on ARM, which are still being encountered by the users (and reported in #gentoo-embedded) such as: build issues with thumb2, SIGILL on non-NEON capable armv7 processors. The current gentoo stable version 0.17.2 is one of the snapshot releases from the pixman development branch which to portage by mistake: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=302517#c10 Reproducible: Always
We will stabilize it, but along with Xorg 1.8. Like I said in the other bug report, although pixman is supposed to be independent of xorg-server, it really isn't. As such, I'd rather stabilize both at the same time to avoid trouble. (pixman being also used directly by cairo, there might be breakage there as well) Do stay tuned for the 1.8 stabilization, we should start the process soon. It'd be nice if we could stabilize 1.8 during the summer. Cheers
The point here is that pixman-0.18 already IS stable, but a development release of it, which is bad. So please state that you have considered it in that light. Reopening meanwhile.

Really, if arm wants to stabilize the newer version, be my guest, but that's not how I wish to proceed. (I'm not completely against it either, just not really in favor...) Cheers
I see that pixman 0.18.2 is getting stabilized via bug 327777, thanks.
