Description Dominik Köppl 2010-05-01 09:03:52 UTC
I'm using Gentoo Hardened 10.0 No-Multilib amd64 for my remote printer server.
On this server are attached an Epson Stylus D120 and a HP Deskjet 5740.
The server is running with Cups, but without X.
Due to the fact that the Stylus D120 can only be made accessible by >net-print/gutenprint-5.2.0, I tried to emerge '=net-print/gutenprint-5.2.5-r1'.
Unfortunately, using emerge gutenprint failed throwing the error message
"/usr/bin/install: will not overwrite just-created `/var/tmp/portage/net-print/gutenprint-5.2.5-r1/image//usr/include/gutenprint/sequence.h' with `sequence.h'".
This could be fixed by removing in the 'pkginclude_HEADERS'-List the double occurence of 'sequence.h' in
'/var/tmp/portage/net-print/gutenprint-5.2.5-r1/work/gutenprint-5.2.5/include/gutenprint/Makefile'. Finally, a 'ebuild /usr/portage/net-print/gutenprint/gutenprint-5.2.5-r1.ebuild merge' brought succesfully the new gutenprint-package on my system.
The Epson printer works locally with the 'lpr' command accepting plain text and postscript files.
But after trying to send jobs to this printer via clients, cups stopped the job explaining '(/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstoraster) crashed on signal 11!'.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install cups and the newest gutenprint version
2. Setting up an Epson D120
3. Trying to print remote via CUPS

Actual Results:
The Epson printer works perfectly under the local system.
By sending a job from a client to the server, the job will be stopped producing error-information seen in the attachment 'error_log'

* My clients are running Gentoo with cups, too.
* The HP Deskjet 5740, which is also attached at my printer server, works perfectly (local and remote)

For the cups errorlog, try to reconfigure your printer.

What about the src_install problem? I have the same issue here since weeks ...

gutenprint-5.2.5-sequence.h-fix.patch

The fix for the sequence.h issue was quite simple, please add this patch to the ebuild :-)

The fix is now upstream, so it should appear in the next gutenprint release.

Thanks for reporting and for the patch. It's in 5.2.5-r1 (no revision bump).
