Since upgrading to kernel 2.6.33, the screen flickers once appears the boot console. I have tried various kernel settings, with the same result. Until kernel 2.6.32-r6 it all worked perfectly. I use the framebuffer on an ATI X1600 Mobility. I compiled the kernel manually with "make oldconfig" and check the configuration with "make menuconfig". The flicker remains even after X is started. Can you try booting with radeon.new_pll=0 added to your kernel command line to see if it fixes the issue?
Adding radeon.new_pll=0 to my kernel command line works fine! I dont't know this parameter. What does it mean?

Right now we have a workaround, so I will be closing this as fixed.
