This problem concerns only DVD discs with CSS encryption or .iso images from them, which I've created with 'DVD Decryper tool. Other media are played fine. I've tried playing these .iso in VLC on my virtual Ubuntu machine, and it's ok, so I guess the one to blame is VLC or libraries. Also, I've tried playing with mplayer dvd:// and vlc dvdsimple:// - no problems as well. What exactly happens: The video (sound included) stop playing every several seconds for a couple of seconds. At these times error messages are printed to console: [0x7f234000b1b8] main input error: ES_OUT_SET_(GROUP_)PCR is called too late, increasing pts_delay to 305 ms [0x7f234000b1b8] main input error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called [0x7f2340034a58] libmpeg2 decoder error: DpbUnlinkPicture called on an invalid picture [0x7f2340034a58] libmpeg2 decoder error: DpbUnlinkPicture called on an invalid picture Also, after these moments VLC rebuffers the video (check status bar in the .mpeg I recorded). Demonstration is here (3.4M): http://narod.ru/disk/17662133000/vlc-wtf.mpeg.html (please enter CAPTCHA and click green button for download) I'm using vlc 1.0.5, libmpeg2 0.5.1-r1, libdvdcss 1.2.10, libdvdread 4.1.3_p1168 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run VLC 2. Open faulty .iso or DVD with CSS Actual Results: video is played with interruptions Expected Results: normal playback Portage 2.2_rc62 (default/linux/amd64/10.0, gcc-4.4.2, glibc-2.11-r1, 2.6.32-gentoo-r3melf x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.32-gentoo-r3melf-x86_64-AMD_Phenom-tm-_9650_Quad-Core_Processor-with-gentoo-2.0.1 Timestamp of tree: Fri, 05 Feb 2010 16:45:01 +0000 app-shells/bash: 4.0_p37 dev-java/java-config: 2.1.10 dev-lang/python: 2.6.4-r1, 3.1.1-r1 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.1.0 dev-util/cmake: 2.8.0-r2 sys-apps/baselayout: 2.0.1 sys-apps/openrc: 0.6.0-r1 sys-apps/sandbox: 2.2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.65 sys-devel/automake: 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.3, 1.11.1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.20 sys-devel/gcc: 4.4.2 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.1 sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.6b virtual/os-headers: 2.6.30-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" ACCEPT_LICENSE="*" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -march=native -mtune=native" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/splash /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -march=native -mtune=native" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="assume-digests distlocks fixpackages news parallel-fetch preserve-libs protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-logs unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo-mirror.spb.ru/ http://mirror.yandex.ru/gentoo-distfiles/ http://ftp.klid.dk/ftp/gentoo/" LANG="ru_RU.UTF-8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" LINGUAS="en en_GB ru ja" MAKEOPTS="-j5" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/var/lib/layman/java-overlay /var/lib/layman/pcsx2 /var/lib/layman/rion /usr/local/myover/combined" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow X aac acl acpi alsa amd64 anthy bash-completion bluetooth bzip2 cjk cli cracklib crypt cups cxx directfb djvu dri dvd encode exif fbcon ffmpeg flac fortran gdbm gif glitz gpm gstreamer gtk iconv idn immqt-bc jpeg kde lame libcaca m17n-lib matroska mmx modules mp3 mpeg mplayer mudflap multilib ncurses nls nptl nptlonly ogg opengl openmp pam pcre pdf perl png pppd python qt3support qt4 raw readline reflection session spell spl sse sse2 ssl svg sysfs tcpd truetype unicode usb vorbis x264 xcomposite xorg xscreensaver xv xvid zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="en en_GB ru ja" RUBY_TARGETS="ruby18" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="vesa nvidia" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
i'll need a sample to reproduce the problem and also the full 'vlc -vvv' log
I've downloaded a sample from TPB: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5000845/Gran_Torino_(Clint_Eastwood__2008)_-_[DVD5_ITA-ENG].iso The problem occurs here. Attaching -vvv output.
Created attachment 231545 [details] vlc -vvv output
I have the same problem. If it helps, it only started after I updated something, and it wasn't VLC which updated. Unfortunately I don't know what it was. I also have another system which is up to date and it doesn't happen with. Would there be any info I can give about my systems which would help?
I have the exact same problem. It also occurs on an update. It 's been a few months now. But no later update did solve the problem. @Jarryd Beck, do you have your /var/log/emerge.log to check what have been updated at the time the problem occurred ?
My emerge log goes back to 2008, unfortunately I don't know what date it was that it stopped working. I think it was back in July or August somewhere but I'm not sure exactly when.
I think I've narrowed it down to a 157 package update, along with the subsequent revdep-rebuild. I don't know how useful that is going to be. I can confirm the initial poster's observations too, vlc without menus plays dvds with no problems.
Some update: it still happens after these 2 years. VLC is at version 2.0.5.
Still present in vlc-2.0.7
Can you try vlc-9999 to see if it is still present? Since this appears since 1.0.5, this sounds like something that has always been present; thus this is not a regression but rather a long time bug. I suggest you to file this upstream if vlc-9999 has no fix for it. Can you let us know the URL to the upstream bug? Good luck and thank you in advance.
*** Bug 409327 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
I don't see any of that with 9999 anymore. With 2.1.1 errors a much fewer than before and only disrupt the playback in first few seconds after opening the DVD: [0x7f61fc0009b8] main input error: ES_OUT_SET_(GROUP_)PCR is called too late (pts_delay increased to 300 ms) [0x7f61fc0009b8] main input error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called [0x7f61fc0009b8] main input error: ES_OUT_SET_(GROUP_)PCR is called too late (pts_delay increased to 322 ms) [0x7f61fc0009b8] main input error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called To other unlucky users: please test it, too.
That sounds reasonable, given that it is in 9999 I expect it might get resolved sooner or later; when I bump 2.1.4 this weekend, can you try that to see if it has improved further?
I forgot to try, I'll test it today.
Still occurs for me with 2.2.1-r1. Please reopen.
