Description Michał Górny archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2010-02-04 12:55:39 UTC
After calling portage.getmaskingreason() or 'emerge -pv' with '=media-libs/mesa-9999', I get following result:

# Justin Lecher (jlec) (26 Apr 2009)
# jlec@j-schmitz.net
# experimental versions
# Don't let people install these accidentally

of which only the last line is related to mesa masking (in x11 overlay). Three other lines are from 'science' overlay's package.mask file where they precede '=sci-chemistry/refmac-5.6*' mask (the last mask in the file).

I guess it could be because 'x11' overlay mask reason doesn't contain name nor date.

What behavior are you asking for exactly? I think the current behavior makes the most sense. I believe the only thing that is incorrect is presentation.

Basically I'd suggest something like:

ATOM [1]
COMMENT

ATOM [2]
COMMENT

[1] /path/to/mesa/overlay
[2] /path/to/x11/overlay

similar to how overlays are displayed in other emerge contexts.

Why would you not want it to show all the applicable masks? Certainly you will have to unmask it twice to install it right?

You didn't understood me. I mean, the first comment it outputs isn't related to mesa but to some other random (previous) package.

reset comment state when looping to next package.mask file

Save as /tmp/pmask_comment.patch and apply as follows:

  patch /usr/lib/portage/pym/portage/__init__.py /tmp/pmask_comment.patch

Thank you, it works as expected.
Comment 7 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2010-03-03 11:19:57 UTC
This is fixed in 2.1.8 and 2.2_rc64.
