Description Juergen Rose 2009-08-18 10:57:49 UTC
I have a Qstarz BT-Q1300, Firmware: AXN_1.0-B_1.3_C01(QST_Q1300) as shown by bt747-2.X.1438 (installed by unzipping BT747_2.X.1438_full.zip and changing several permissions and group memberships). After plugging in the gps logger udev creates /dev/ttyACM0 and I can connect through this device.

If I start as user root or ordinary user rose bt747, installed by portage from bt747-1.68.22.ebuild and try to connect to /dev/ttyACM0 I get the following message but no connection:
root@thinkpad:/usr/local/portage/sci-geosciences/bt747(40)# bt747
Experimental: JNI_OnLoad called.

Have you tried to remove (or move) the file BT747SettingsJ2SE.pdb and then restart the bt747 application?
Before connecting, just select the generic linux/USB device

I have a Qstarz BT1000 and it works. My interface is /dev/ttyUSB0 but maybe is a specific things of my travel recorder. I have in the kernel the
USB CP210x family of UART Bridge Controllers
selected as the lsusb -v declared the
iProduct 2 CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller

Comment 2 Thilo Bangert (RETIRED) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-01-15 15:04:52 UTC
i have the same problem. my gps device is also showing up as ttyACM0.
perhaps this is the rxtx library not accepting/knowing these device names...
Comment 3 Thilo Bangert (RETIRED) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-01-15 18:40:21 UTC
i have now patched rxtx and it does indeed fix the issue. will open a separate bug shortly.

This patch should make bt747 use its own rxtx (maybe patched)

Please test if the ttyACM0 device is now discovered and that bt747 works
Comment 5 Thilo Bangert (RETIRED) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-02-12 10:13:04 UTC
for many reasons we shouldnt use bundled libraries.
anyway - for me this is fixed by using the just committed
dev-java/rxtx-2.1.7.2-r3

perhaps the bt747 ebuilds can be made to depend on this specific version of rxtx?
Comment 6 Tupone Alfredo gentoo-dev 2010-02-18 09:00:53 UTC
I think I will leave the way it is, without the proposed patch and without any forced dependency on the new rxtx.
Wait for the new rxtx to go stable
Comment 7 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-05-27 08:53:50 UTC
This bug is really fixed, not later.

Current rxtx required is 2.2_pre2.
