Description Kevin Fullerton 2009-07-05 20:11:00 UTC
dev-ruby/racc-1.4.5 has USE_RUBY="ruby18 ruby19" in the ebuild to signify building extensions for ruby19, but building against ruby19 fails. Ruby18 build completes successfully.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install ruby19
2. Emerge dev-ruby/racc-1.4.5

Actual Results:
Emerge failed

Expected Results:
Emerge succeeded

Fixed in CVS. Closing this bug since we don't intend to fix ruby 1.9 compatibility issues ourselves. Feel free to reopen if you've got a patch.

Does this version work for you? If so, with which ruby versions? Using ruby 1.8.7_p174 this breaks for me:

x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -I. -I/usr/lib64/ruby/1.8/x86_64-linux -I/usr/lib64/ruby/1.8/x86_64-linux -I/var/tmp/portage/dev-ruby/racc-1.4.6/work/racc-1.4.6/ext/racc/cparse -fPIC -O2 -pipe -march=native -fno-strict-aliasing -fPIC -c cparse.c
cparse.c:14:23: error: ruby/ruby.h: No such file or directory
cparse.c:34: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘RaccBug’
cparse.c:35: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘CparseParams’

See previous comment which didn't get mailed out due to a bug in Bugzilla.

ruby-1.9.1_p243

After modifying ebuild (in local overlay) the portage "dev-ruby/racc-1.4.6" has been installed without any problem.

See http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.ruby/browse_thread/thread/f47a6339d5e3e600

I am just testing racc for ruby 1.9.1 now. I'll report in case of any bug.

Comment 8 Hans de Graaff gentoo-dev Security 2009-09-26 19:35:19 UTC
The reason for the failure I'm getting is that my ruby.h is /usr/lib64/ruby/1.8/x86_64-linux/ruby.h while the compiler looks in "-I. -I/usr/lib64/ruby/1.8/x86_64-linux -I/usr/lib64/ruby/1.8/x86_64-linux" for "ruby/ruby.h", which obviously isn't found.

Not sure if this is a bug in racc or a problem with our ruby setup.
Comment 9 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-01-28 12:05:05 UTC
This should be fixed with our new ebuild using fakegem.
