the handbook still tells us about using the installer cd. after successfully failed with both of these installers, text and x11, i was told in te irc that they are very experimental, broken, not up2date, unmaintained and beta and should not be used! this should be fixed as fast as possible in the documentation. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. download liveinstaller cd 2. use textinstaller: won't install correctly, quits after install without a message (what now? no feedback? pray and boot?) after rebooting gentoo was installed, but there was NO xdm i selected to install in the menu before! and so on and so on, no network... 3. graphical installer does not install correctly: no gnome login posible but selected in the installer. no user was created and so on. Actual Results: unuseable system, or need to fix a lot of weird things Expected Results: a working system! i find this is very critical, we don't want unuseable installer cds wasting our planet, or? :) a bussiness card edition just to boot and install would be nice, and please dont mention the installers if they are broken :)
You obviously ignored the disclaimer...
While the download page may contain a disclaimer, the Handbooks do not and still mention[0] the GLI. I frequently see users on #gentoo attempting to use the GLI because of this. I urge the developers to reopen this issue until the Handbooks have been updated. [0] http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=2
from http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=2 the current browseable documentation "Important: If you wish to install Gentoo without a working Internet connection, or would like to use one of the provided installers, please use the installation instructions described in the Gentoo 2008.0 Handbooks." "The Gentoo Installer LiveCD contains everything you need to install Gentoo. It provides a graphical environment, a graphical as well as console based installer which automatically carries out the installation for you, and of course, the installation instructions for your architecture."
Because I don't think anyone's listening on here any more, I've filed a new issue for this: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=276541 If that gets closed as well I plan to complain on the -devel mailing list as I really don't think this issue is invalid in any way, shape or form.
