Description Gene Imes 2009-06-29 19:05:02 UTC
Start X for the command line and it fails.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.startx
2.
3.

Actual Results:
startx output:

/usr/bin/compiz (core) - Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
/usr/bin/compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
/usr/bin/compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

I use gnome so the gnome startup screen comes up and freezes there. Usually when xorg-server fails it reverts to the console but not lately (another bug).

I can, if network is started, ssh from another machine.

Expected Results:
xorg-server starts normally

Just emerged xorg-server-1.6.1.901-r5 this morning and this problem started. I have tried to mask -r5 but with this entry in /etc/portage/package.mask:

=x11-base/xorg-server-1.6.1.901-r5

with no result (even another bug).

I have also problems with this -r5 release, -r4 works fine.

I get my screen messed up and after few minutes X crashes... nothing gets logged about that problem.

I have Intel 945GME, UXA, DRI2 and GEM. I'll post more info when I get back home.
Comment 2 Andreas Sturmlechner gentoo-dev 2009-06-30 09:29:43 UTC
Everything's fine here. Did you all recompile your x11-drivers/ ? If not, that is likely to be the cause for your issues.

I did recompile kernel, driver and did even "emerge -evDN xorg-server".
Comment 4 Robin Bankhead 2009-06-30 11:03:09 UTC
In my case X does run, but DRI/DRI2 fails and there is a bad screen flicker in KDE. This in Xorg.0.log:

(II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable
(II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable
(II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/dri/swrast_dri.so
(II) GLX: Initialized DRISWRAST GL provider for screen 0

I assume this is what causes compiz to fail?
Comment 5 Christopher Schwan 2009-06-30 11:50:53 UTC
Same issue here (intel i915GM + KMS + ...), -r4 still works fine.

I think this bug is also related to 275861 and 275852.

So much for having bugs taken care of. No reply from a bug man for four days.

Please remember Gentoo developers are volunteers and may well have other commitments. In the meantime you can roll back to the previous build to get a working system.

I'm seeing other problems with the -r5 build and have reverted to -r4 to get a working system. I haven't looked at the changes made for -r5 as the ChangeLog entry is a rather cryptic:

backport some more patches from upstream's 1.6 nominations, bump dri2proto

and the patches seem to be all bundled together in the ebuild.

this dri2 seem to be fixed in the next version, but its no the curent portage
Comment 9 Christopher Schwan 2009-07-03 21:51:42 UTC
i am running the newest version of xorg, version 1.6.1.902 which solved the problem. test it !
