I have some trouble pinpointing the exact cause of this problem so I may not be complete in my description. I have only one system (stable tree) where this happens. Initially, the whole system froze at halt. Some trial and error revealed that it's the alsasound service, that shows: AchillesGentoo ~ # /etc/init.d/alsasound stop * WARNING: you are stopping a boot service. * Storing ALSA Mixer Levels ...
