I ran into this problem as well. The package dependencies is that qt-phonon depends on qt3support. qt3support links towards phonon although the dependency seems not to be stated in the ebuild. I emerged qt-phonon before I emerged qt3support, then emerged qt meta package and things worked out fine. Sorry I don't have the build-log-file left though I noticed that it was the linking that went wrong with the message that "-lphonon, phonon not found" or similar. I interpreted the message that the linker could not find the libphonon.a or .so. My emerge --info bellow.
