anyway wxmaxima 0.7.5 compiles fine here but it needs a "testing" maxima

Not the best solution, but I was able to compile the latest sources from http://wxmaxima.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
See --> http://bugs.gentoo.org/264649 I also found this (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=527708) in the Debian bug reports, which is about the same problem. It seems that, in both of the above cases, later versions of wxMaxima stopped having this problem and installed fine.
After unmasking (on x86 at least), maxima-5.18.1 and wxmaxima-0.8.2 install with no errors.
