i found another bug with exiv2-0.18 and digikam-0.9.5*.
When exiv2-0.18 is installed, digikam crashes on startup with this error when scanning the image-directory:
Assertion `tiffType() == ttUndefined' failed.
For more info you can look ath the ubuntu-archive ( https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kubuntu-bugs/2009-April/072743.html ).
I renamed the ebuild to exiv2-0.18.1.ebuild and reemerged, this seems to have solved the problem here on x86 and x86_64, digikam starts fine.

Yes, exiv2 compiles on my stable x86 system, but it breaks the compilation of the stable digikam and libkexiv2 packages. See http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=270950

Going to unstable keywords on libkexiv2 seems to start a snowballing process of bringing in all of kde4, which isn't ready for stable yet. Any recommendations besides masking >=0.18 (which is what I'm currently doing).
