Description Joseph 2009-03-15 21:25:17 UTC
When I try to emerge new "stable" gnumeric-1.8.4-r1 it complains:

emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy ">=gnome-extra/libgsf-1.14.6[-gnome]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- gnome-extra/libgsf-1.14.10 (Change USE: -gnome)
(dependency required by "app-office/gnumeric-1.8.4-r1" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "world" [argument])

So, I rebuild "libgsf -gnome"
and gnumeric-1.8.4-r1 fails

/bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/libgsf-gnome-1.la: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `/usr/lib/libgsf-gnome-1.la' is not a valid libtool archive
make[4]: *** [libspreadsheet.la] Error 1
make[4]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/app-office/gnumeric-1.8.4-r1/work/gnumeric-1.8.4/src'
make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/app-office/gnumeric-1.8.4-r1/work/gnumeric-1.8.4/src'
make[2]: *** [all] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/app-office/gnumeric-1.8.4-r1/work/gnumeric-1.8.4/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/app-office/gnumeric-1.8.4-r1/work/gnumeric-1.8.4'
make: *** [all] Error 2
 *
 * ERROR: app-office/gnumeric-1.8.4-r1 failed.

In addition, gnucash needs libgsf with "gnome" use flag; if I build "libgsf -gnome" gnucash fails with:

ERROR: app-office/gnucash-2.2.7 failed.
 * Call stack:
 *               ebuild.sh, line   49:  Called pkg_setup
 *    gnucash-2.2.7.ebuild, line   71:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *      [ -n "${diemessage}" ] && die ${diemessage}
 *  The die message:
 * gnome-extra/libgsf must be built with gnome use flag. x11-libs/goffice must be built with gnome use flag.

So, new gnumeric-1.8.4-r1 creates conflict.

Reproducible: Always

gnumeric with USE="gnome" requires libgsf with USE="gnome" as gnucash. So there is no problem here.

Not building with USE="-gnome" is a problem though.
Comment 2 Joseph 2009-03-15 23:37:43 UTC
That is correct it is working now.
I must have misinterpreted the information :-/
Apology about it.

I have had "-gnome" in my USE flags for over a year now on my mostly stable AMD64 box. But, when I try to update gnumeric I get the error mentioned above.

I've noticed I have libgsf built with "gnome" support, I don't know why. Even if I add the redundant line "gnome-extra/libgsf -gnome" to my /etc/portage/package.use file, portage wants to re-emerge libgsf with gnome support. Why on Earth??

As a result, I can't update gnumeric. However, I have gnumeric-1.8.3 installed with "-gnome", so in the past that was not a problem. What's happening now?
Comment 5 Joseph 2009-03-16 13:22:46 UTC
It's been my impression that I was the only one confused the the wording in it.

To solve it all you need to do is to put in:
/etc/portage/package.use
app-office/gnumeric gnome

but the emerge did not mentioned any of it and created confusion.

I was confused too.
