after updating to openrc 0.4.1 /etc/init.d/preload stop * Stopping preload (may take awhile)... * ERROR: preload failed to stop and the process still exist.... also a system reboot hangs several minutes... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: with openrc 0.3.x stopping was successful
Bummer, I haven't upgraded to openrc-0.4.1 and don't expect to for awhile yet. Let me know if you get anywhere with it.
no idea - must be a openrc problem. because a simple kill <preload-pid> works but the command extracted from preload init script start-stop-daemon --stop --retry 120 --quiet --pidfile /var/run/preload.pid hangs completely ....
It is a openrc problem!!! the start-stop-daemon option "--retry 120" is responsible and no longer working in openrc 0.4.1 WORKAROUND: I removed the --retry 120 and everything works as expected. This bug should be assigned to the openrc maintainer merry xmas

Thanks!
Apparently this is fixed in openrc-0.4.2. Please try that when it hits the tree http://roy.marples.name/node/459
