With Python 2.6 (dev-lang/python-2.6-r3) unmasked and set to be /usr/bin/python, esearch fails. $ esearch Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/esearch", line 16, in <module> from output import bold, red, green, darkgreen, turquoise, nocolor File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/output.py", line 39, in <module> warnings.warn("DEPRECATION NOTICE: The %s module was replaced by %s" % (__oldname, __newname), DeprecationWarning) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/warnings.py", line 29, in _show_warning file.write(formatwarning(message, category, filename, lineno, line)) TypeError: _formatwarning() takes exactly 4 arguments (5 given)
What's your portage version, cause I think this was fixed in more recent ones ?
Please post your `emerge --info' too.

Yep, that's as recent as it gets. Let's have portage team take a look.
Sigh, wrong devs... assign to right ones...
I think the easiest solution is to add line=None in line 34 of output.py in /usr/lib/portage/pym/ def _formatwarning(message, category, filename, lineno, line=None): works for 2.6, 2.5 and 2.4
(In reply to comment #6) > I think the easiest solution is to add line=None in line 34 of output.py in > /usr/lib/portage/pym/ Thanks, I've fixed this in svn (same as bug 252840). Reassigning back to tools-portage so we can get the deprecation notice fixed.
Created attachment 176716 [details, diff] use new api by default and fall back to the deprecated api if necessary If this patch is saved as /tmp/deprecated.patch, then it can be applied as follows: cd /usr/lib/esearch patch -p1 < /tmp/deprecated.patch
Thanks, Zac! Fixed in esearch-0.7.1-r5
