Description Clin 2008-09-16 19:59:54 UTC
SABnzbd is a Usenet client based around NZB binary file grabbing. Its similar to HellaNZBd, however I found that HellaNZBd's traffic shaper didnt work at all and soon switched to SABnzbd.

Its a fairly straightforward ebuild to create, I just have no experience writing them. And as time is somewhat of a constraint in my life at the moment its not really a great time to learn.

Oh, I should mention that according to the url provided, SABnzbd has '277,504 downloads total' and the last update was on '2008-08-28' (Starting late 2007) - so it seems popular enough to not be missed :)

Reproducible: Always

It's a bit of a mess, really. The package doesn't come with an installer and indeed, the install instructions boil down to 1) unpack where you see fit and 2) run it...

Furthermore, the package appears to pack files from other packages, like dev-python/cherrypy. On top of that, the license is unclear. The LICENSE document in the tarball has me thinking it's CCPL-Attribution-3.0 whereas there's a GPL2.txt file and a GPL3.txt file in there as well, whilst COPYRIGHT.txt wants it to be GPL-2 or later.

I was chatting with some of the users over at irc.synirc.net #sabnzbd and they linked me to this http://forums.sabnzbd.org/index.php?topic=852.0 . I dont currently understand any of the licence mumbo-jumbo but hopefully that helps clear some issues with licensing :)

The ebuild attached to Bug #132590 is for SABnzbd 0.4.5, not SABnzbd 0.4.6

So what's the problem with this package? :) As far as I can see you only have to extract the tar gz, start the py and you're ready to roll. The documentation has an example for a basic init script which I'm sure can be transformed into a "Gentoo-esqe" init script.
I'm not fluent in writing ebuilds or init scripts, but for a basic copy-paste action I'm sure someone out there can spare a little time to create them? :)

see #132590 for another integration of sabnzbd (ready for inclusion in maintree).
