As far as I'm aware, the genkernel option --udev is depricated.
In the paragraph immediately following Code Listing 2.2 the documentation
says:-
//If you use genkernel, don't forget to run it with the --udev option to enable
all the required kernel configuration directives.//

Please update documentation to reflect this.
