Description Martin 2003-06-25 14:39:32 UTC
Recently updated to the latest baselayou and devfsd and I am using the alsa sould system. On boot
after the sound driver is loaded, I get a whole lot of messages starting with
modprobe: Can't locate module /dev/aloadC1 all the way thru aloadC31 and
modprobe: Can't locate module /dev/snd/controlC8 all the way thru controlC31
These errors occur on shutdown as well.
I am using
alsa-lib-0.9.2
alsa-driver-0.9.2

Although I don't believe it is an alsa problem.

If I disable alsasound from boot (remove from the default runlevel) I do not get these errors.
If I manually start alsasound, I do not get these errors.

epm -q devfsd module-init-tools modutils baselayout
package module-init-tools is not installed
devfsd-1.3.25-r3
modutils-2.4.25
baselayout-1.8.6.8-r1

Using gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r5

I am not getting any missing /dev/rtc messages and sound works fine otherwise.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

Received the same messages with my kernel.

The messages went away with a kernel compile. However, when alsa-driver is reemerged back into the system to reinstall the modules, all hell breaks loose and no modules are able to load, not just the alsa modules. Changing to the kernel source tree and doing a make modules_install restore everything, but I'm still having problems getting the sound drivers working.

No ideas. Perhaps agenkin will be able to help...
Comment 3 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-02-12 04:07:46 UTC
Are you still having this problem with the latest alsa-driver/alsa-utils?
Comment 4 Martin 2004-02-12 19:11:47 UTC
Yes, Appears to be resolved in latest alsa-driver, or at least the problem has disappeared.
