Current lirc (app-misc/lirc-0.8.3-r2) fails to compile against the latest vanilla sources (sys-kernel/vanilla-sources-2.6.26). Compiling lirc from cvs works without any problems. Maybe bump lirc to a cvs snapshot? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge =dev-kernel/vanilla-sources-2.6.26 2. compile vanilla-sources-2.6.26 3. emerge =app-misc/lirc-0.8.3-r2 Actual Results: Lirc fails to compile with the following error: /var/tmp/portage/app-misc/lirc-0.8.3-r2/work/lirc-0.8.3/drivers/lirc_dev/lirc_dev.c: In function 'cleanup': /var/tmp/portage/app-misc/lirc-0.8.3-r2/work/lirc-0.8.3/drivers/lirc_dev/lirc_dev.c:148: error: implicit declaration of function 'class_device_destroy' /var/tmp/portage/app-misc/lirc-0.8.3-r2/work/lirc-0.8.3/drivers/lirc_dev/lirc_dev.c: In function 'lirc_register_plugin': /var/tmp/portage/app-misc/lirc-0.8.3-r2/work/lirc-0.8.3/drivers/lirc_dev/lirc_dev.c:403: error: implicit declaration of function 'class_device_create' make[5]: *** [/var/tmp/portage/app-misc/lirc-0.8.3-r2/work/lirc-0.8.3/drivers/lirc_dev/lirc_dev.o] Error 1 Expected Results: lirc should compile fine against vanilla-sources-2.6.26 emerge --info Portage 2.2_rc1 (default/linux/x86/2008.0, gcc-4.3.1, glibc-2.7-r2, 2.6.25-gentoo-r4 i686) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.25-gentoo-r4-i686-Intel-R-_Core-TM-2_Duo_CPU_E8200_@_2.66GHz-with-glibc2.0 Timestamp of tree: Tue, 15 Jul 2008 06:45:01 +0000 app-shells/bash: 3.2_p39 dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.1.6-r1 dev-lang/python: 2.4.4-r6, 2.5.2-r5 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r6 sys-apps/baselayout: 2.0.0 sys-apps/openrc: 0.2.5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1-r3 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.62-r1 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.1-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.4 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.25-r4 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=core2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -msse4.1" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /opt/glftpd/etc /opt/glftpd/ftp-data /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/config /var/lib/hsqldb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=core2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -msse4.1 -fvisibility-inlines-hidden" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--alphabetical" FEATURES="distlocks parallel-fetch preserve-libs sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://linux.rz.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/download/gentoo-mirror/ http://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/ http://gentoo.osuosl.org/" LC_ALL="en_US.iso885915" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS="--progress" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X a52 aac aalib acl acpi akode alsa bash-completion berkdb bzip2 cairo cdr cli cracklib crypt cups dba dbus dga dri dts dvd dvdr dvdread ffmpeg foomaticdb fortran ftp gd gdbm gif gpm gtk gtk2 hal iconv icq ipv6 isdnlog java jpeg kde kdehiddenvisibility lirc midi mjpeg mmx mp3 mp4 mpeg mplayer mudflap musepack musicbrainz ncurses nfs nls no-old-linux nptl nptlonly nsplugin nvidia oggvorbis opengl openmp oss pam pcre pdf pdflib perl png ppds pppd python qt qt3 qt4 readline reflection session smp spl sse sse2 ssl svg svga tcpd threads tiff truetype unicode usb v4l v4l2 win32codecs wmf x264 x86 xine xorg xulrunner xv xvid zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1 emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LIRC_DEVICES="hauppauge" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia vesa v4l" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LINGUAS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS
The same for x86_64 and gentoo-sources.

I did some investigation and all that is needed for 2.6.26 compatibility are some changes in lirc_dev.c and kcompat.h. I did a diff on those two files from last weeks cvs against 0.8.3 and attached a patch. So far there are no problems with the patched lirc here.

Thanks for the patch. Added it to lirc-0.8.3-r2 ebuild.
