an emerge @preserved-rebuild for
!!! existing preserved libs:
>>> package: media-libs/freetype-2.3.7

 *  - /usr/lib64/libpangoft2-1.0.so.0.2002.1
generates 89 reinstalls, including openoffice, which i was not able to emerge in one row with resumes.
i had to emerge something else after about 80 of 89 was built.
and had to rerun emerge @preserved-rebuild, which recalculated the 89 reinstalls.
portage should set a list of packages to be rebuilt by @preserved-rebuild, and not recalculate it next time, if it is already built since last set.

This sounds like a dupe of bug 230257. I'm having roughly the same problem btw.
