I just switched to 2008.0/profile and eix shows every package as masked.
emerge treats them as not-masked.

The new profiles make use of features which were not supported by older eix.
You must switch to >=eix-0.12.3

Fixed in the stable tree per bug 224297.

eix-0.12.4 is still ~arm ~s390 and ~sh, although
eix-0.10.2 is arm s390 and sh (so I guess these arches have a stable branch).
That's why I had left open this bug as well as bug 224297.
