i just got similar report and it seems to be amd64 thing. on 32 bit x86 it just works.
moreover it seems to be somehow portage related bug; there is no qt_plugin string in sources. similar bug with completely different package here: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=40492&forumpage=45&PHP
