'emerge nvidia-drivers' pulls in nvidia-settings. Useful though the tool is, it is not needed by the drivers, therefore not a dependency, and should hence be installed optionally, not automatically. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Emerge nvidia-drivers 2. Get a package you didn't want installed 3. Actual Results: see description Expected Results: perhaps an ebuild message could mention that nvidia-settings is available. Perhaps later versions of the driver depend on the nvidia-settings lib (??) but 1.0.7185 does not.
So emerge it w/ USE="-gtk"
