Comment 1 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-16 16:49:36 UTC
Hi Xavier,

Thanks for wanting to help Gentoo out with a mirror.

Ran a check &

distfiles :

 * Timestamp on files.gentoo.linuxant.fr is Thu, 16 Aug 2007 12:08:03 +0000
 * Current time in UTC is Thu Aug 16 16:45:17 UTC 2007

rsync :

IP: rsync.gentoo.linuxant.fr
Checked at (UTC) Timestamp
================================================
     16:47:36 Thu, 16 Aug 2007 15:50:01 +0000

Seems to have a slight lag. Can you please make sure it's syncing once in 30 mins as mentioned at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml

Also, can you mention your hardware specs and how many concurrent users you plan to support?
Comment 2 Xavier Parizet 2007-08-17 00:02:00 UTC
Hi !

I've checked that my rsync server is synchronized every 30 mins with a crontab as follows :
0,30 * * * * /opt/gentoo-rsync/rsync-gentoo-portage.sh
and for distfiles every 4 hours :
0 00,04,08,12,16,20 * * * /opt/gentoo-rsync/rsync-gentoo-distfiles.sh

and i also checked my logs and indeed my rsync server is synced every 30 mins with rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage, and every 4 hours for my distfiles mirror with ftp.ussg.iu.edu::gentoo-distfiles .

My hardware configuration is the following as stated in my rsync motd :
  * Processor VIA C7 2GHz
  * 1024Mo RAM DDR-2
  * DD 160Go SATA-2
  * 100Mb/s of bandwidth

Also as stated in my rsync motd, I allow 20 parallels connections on the rsync server.

Hope my help will be welcomed by gentoo community ;)
Comment 3 Xavier Parizet 2007-10-10 08:12:49 UTC
After some problems, my Gentoo distfiles mirror is now down.
The rsync mirror stay up with same specifications.

For any question, please contact me at webmaster@linuxant.fr.

Xavier,

rsync looks fine, I'll add you in.

Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added the IP (88.191.57.89) to
our access database, please start syncing to rsync1.us.gentoo.org per our
Rsync document at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml. We would like you to
subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to
gentoo-mirrors+subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send our notifications of
updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Once again, thanks for
the hardware and bandwidth!

Please also monitor http://mirrorstats.gentoo.org/rsync as this application is
used to keep track of the up-to-date nature of our mirrors

For Infrastructure,

Shyam Mani

You are mirror rsync1.fr.gentoo.org in the rsync.fr.gentoo.org rotation.
Comment 5 Xavier Parizet 2008-02-28 11:30:15 UTC
It seems my mirror isn't allowed to access your primary rsync mirror at rsync1.us.gentoo.org. Here is my rsync output while trying to synchronize with :
Started update at Thu Feb 28 12:21:05 CET 2008
@ERROR: access denied to gentoo-portage from dns.linuxant.fr (88.191.57.89)
rsync error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(1386) [receiver=2.6.9]
End: Thu Feb 28 12:21:10 CET 2008

I've also seen that there's no contact information in your mirrorstat listing. Please add these information for :
  - Admin contact : Xavier Parizet
  - email : gentoo.rsync@linuxant.fr

Regards.
Comment 6 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-03-02 17:03:13 UTC
Xavier,

Does this problem still exist? Because I see the IP address added correctly to our ACL.

As for mirrorstats, it's a minor bug, I'll get to it when I rework mirrorstats.
Comment 7 Xavier Parizet 2008-03-02 17:04:47 UTC
That's good now ! Thanks for your attention :!
Comment 8 Xavier Parizet 2008-06-27 22:32:33 UTC
Hello,

I'm switching my server to Xen and OVH, so i wanted to notify you of the change of its IP :

  - the OLD one was 88.191.57.89
  - the NEW one is 87.98.190.20

The hostname stay unchanged : rsync.gentoo.linuxant.fr, as well as the contact information : Xavier Parizet <rsync.gentoo@linuxant.fr> .
Thanks in advance to update access list to your main rsync mirror access list.

Regards.
Comment 9 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-06-28 21:41:16 UTC
ACL updated with new IP.
Comment 10 Xavier Parizet 2008-06-29 22:51:31 UTC
Can you please also update the rsync1.fr.gentoo.org DNS record to make it pointing to 87.98.190.20 rather than 88.191.57.89 ? Many htanks in advance ;)
Comment 11 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-07-02 16:06:20 UTC
Done.
Comment 12 Xavier Parizet 2009-01-30 21:36:57 UTC

Comment 13 Xavier Parizet 2009-01-30 21:39:39 UTC
Hi,

I've made a mistake in my previous message, the full gentoo mirror access is accessible at :
    - HTTP : http://mirrors.linuxant.fr/distfiles.gentoo.org/
    - FTP : ftp://mirrors.linuxant.fr/pub/distfiles.gentoo.org/

My apologizes...
Comment 14 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-02-28 11:08:02 UTC
Xavier,

I've added the new mirrors to our test system. Please make sure they sync every 4 hours as mentioned at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/source_mirrors.xml

We'll keep you posted on the mirror's progress.

Comment 15 Xavier Parizet 2009-02-28 11:53:51 UTC
Hello,

Finally I cancel my request as i have no more time to maintain a new dedicated server. Then do not take care of my previous request of IP change for my RSYNC server (rsync1.fr.gentoo.org). This RSYNC server stay up to date as it is synced every 30 minutes. I recall you its IP address : 87.98.190.20.

Again, many thanks for your attention.

Cheers,

Xavier

Xavier,

Fine, the old address for rsync1.fr.gentoo.org is the above mentioned one and it will be kept online as per your request.

In the future, please allow us to close bugs, else it makes it harder for us to track.

Thanks!
Comment 17 Xavier Parizet 2009-06-15 17:23:12 UTC
Hello,

Following the gentoo infrastructure migration to IPv6, i've now enabled IPv6 access to my portage RSYNC mirror. The configurated IPv6 is :

    2001:41d0:2:4e85::26 (hostname: mirrors.ipv6.linuxant.fr)

A full gentoo distfiles mirror is also to be configurated on this servers.

The IPv4 adress stay unchanged (87.98.190.20/mirrors.linuxant.fr).

Regards.
Comment 18 Xavier Parizet 2009-06-18 14:52:43 UTC
Hello,

As i said before, a full gentoo distfiles mirror is now up-to-date. It's configurated both as IPv4/IPv6. Here below are URL to access it:

  - HTTP/IPV4: http://mirrors.linuxant.fr/distfiles.gentoo.org/
  - FTP/IPV4 : ftp://mirrors.linuxant.fr/distfiles.gentoo.org/
  - HTTP/IPV6: http://mirrors.ipv6.linuxant.fr/distfiles.gentoo.org/
  - FTP/IPV6 : ftp://mirrors.linuxant.fr/distfiles.gentoo.org/

Characteristics of the server this mirror run on:
  - 100Mbps bandwith up/down
  - Location Roubaix, France
  - Core 2 Duo 2,80 GHz
  - 2Go RAM DDRII
  - 750Go HDD RAID0/SATA-2

Oh, I just re-read this bug and the comments. It is slightly confusing. In the future, please open a new bug. :)

Let's keep an eye on it for 2 weeks. I'll fill you in.
Comment 22 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2009-10-05 02:16:12 UTC
Xavier, At what interval are you syncing up with ftp.ussg.iu.edu::gentoo-distfiles ? Your mirror goes in and out of sync.
Comment 23 Xavier Parizet 2009-10-05 07:49:09 UTC
Hi,

I'm syncing my mirror every 4 hours starting at 0:00:00 CEST. But sometimes, i see some errors in my log:
rsync error: timeout in data send/receive (code 30) at io.c(200) [sender=3.0.6]
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (1168028 bytes received so far) [receiver]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(600) [receiver=3.0.5]
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (118 bytes received so far) [generator]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(600) [generator=3.0.5]

Is this normal ?
Comment 24 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2009-10-13 04:27:47 UTC
That looks like it is just timing out?

Please check on your releases/ directory. It is out of sync on your ftp mirror. http looks fine. For example, see the difference here:
ftp://mirrors.linuxant.fr/distfiles.gentoo.org/releases/amd64/
http://mirrors.linuxant.fr/distfiles.gentoo.org/releases/amd64/

Thanks.
Comment 25 Xavier Parizet 2009-10-13 07:54:16 UTC
Hi,

It should not be possible that http and ftp being different, because both are pointing on the same directory. Anyway, i double checked my configurations, and it seems to be the case. If you see agan a difference between ftp and http mirrors, please send me directory listing with dates of the snapshot.

I've also added 3 retries in case the sync fails.

Feel free to asks any other questions.

Best regards.
Comment 26 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2009-10-16 23:37:05 UTC
Now, I'm seeing timeouts on the ftp side. Both browser and ftp client. Could you check on this? (By the way, this seems to be a trend, looking back through the testing summaries. Probably the reason why I complained in comment #24 too - because firefox was caching the results because it didn't connect)
Comment 27 Xavier Parizet 2009-10-20 09:16:04 UTC
Normally it is now corrected. I was securing my infrastructure with a firewall, and some rules did not allow incoming FTP traffic. It's fixed for now, so have you any other remarks ? They are welcomed.

Thanks for your patience.
Comment 28 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2009-10-21 14:39:51 UTC
Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added your mirror to our list at http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors2.xml. Please start syncing from masterdistfiles.gentoo.org as the email I have sent to you instructs. We would like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to gentoo-mirrors-subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send out notifications of updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Please also monitor http://mirrorstats.gentoo.org as this application is used to keep track of the up-to-date nature of our mirrors. Thanks for the hardware and bandwidth!

(Feel free to open new tickets as needed)
Comment 29 Xavier Parizet 2009-10-22 19:10:26 UTC
Thank you for adding me to official mirror list.
Otherwise, i did not receive your email giving me instructions to sync from masterdistfiles.g.o because you were listed in one of dnsbl. I tried to send you an email directly, but it seems that you did not receive it. Can you please try to resend me your instructions ?
Thanks a lot and sorry for the disturbance.
Comment 30 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2009-10-22 19:17:35 UTC
I sent it via gmail again to you...you still didn't get it? sigh. This is why I don't endorse sorbs dnsbl. They are incorrectly listing my hosting provider's block of IPs and their RT ticket system is controlled by a bot. They can't even talk to a real person. rubbish.

I'll send it again when I am home for the night.
Comment 31 Xavier Parizet 2009-10-22 21:38:37 UTC
Hi,

I just rechecked my mail server logs and it was a mistake from me the second time when you sent it from gmail. Indeed, you used gentoo.rsync@linuxant.fr, but this alias does not exists in my alias table. It's now fixed, but i prefer you to use mirrors@linuxant.fr for further communication. I have already subscribed to gentoo-mirrors as blackhawk@linuxant.fr since i'm in the Gentoo main rsync rotation for portage.

Best regards.
