Description Ervin Peters 2007-06-06 08:57:44 UTC
after an
 balu ~ # emerge --sync
and
balu ~ # emerge -avuND world

I got the later shown blocking issue.

after removing cups and all foomatic stuff, I try to reemerge cups:

balu ~ # emerge -av cups

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild N ] net-print/cups-1.2.10-r1 USE="jpeg nls pam png ppds slp ssl -X -dbus -ldap -php -samba -tiff" 3,534 kB

Total: 4 packages (4 new, 1 block), Size of downloads: 3,534 kB

!!! Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be installed
!!! at the same time on the same system.

It seems there is something wrong in the stable x86 tree.

to complete:

I'm having the same problem - it seems to be cups-1.2.10-r1 (which is marked stable on x86) depends on foomatic-filters-ppds-20070501, which is ~x86.

I've temporarily added foomatic-filters-ppds-20070501 to /etc/portage/package.keywords to get it to install

Same bug, but different behaviour here for my system :

n22 /usr/portage # emerge --nospinner --newuse --update --ask --verbose --deep --tree world

These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

Same problem with hplip too :
# emerge -DauvN world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

I see, let me try and sort out that mess.

Denis.
Comment 5 Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-07 11:03:27 UTC
should be fixed now, as all needed packages have gone stable

After an
#emerge web-rsync (cannot rsync behind my corporate firewall, I know...)
#emerge -avuND world

I am still getting:

[ebuild N ] net-print/cups-1.2.10-r1 USE="dbus ldap jpeg nls pam png php ppds samba slp ssl tiff X" 3,534 kB

[blocks B ] <net-print/foomatic-filters-ppds-20070501 (is blocking
net-print/cups-1.2.10-r1)

after having unmerge cups first due to the blockage. For some reason running an
#emerge -av net-print/foomatic-filters-ppds and then allowing it to upgrade from 20060720 to 20070501. This fixed my problem with not being able to run an

#emerge -avuND world

It is no longer triggering a blockage:

# emerge -avuND world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating world dependencies... done!
[ebuild U ] dev-db/mysql-5.0.42 [5.0.40] USE="perl ssl -berkdb -big-tables -cluster -debug -embedded -extraengine -latin1 -max-idx-128 -minimal (-selinux) -static" 23,688 kB
[ebuild U ] dev-lang/ruby-1.8.6-r1 [1.8.5_p2-r1] USE="ipv6 threads tk -debug -doc -examples -rubytests% -socks5 (-cjk%)" 4,482 kB
[ebuild U ] app-admin/webmin-1.350 [1.340] USE="apache2 pam ssl -postgres -webmin-minimal" 12,532 kB
[ebuild N ] net-print/cups-1.2.10-r1 USE="X dbus jpeg ldap nls pam php png samba ssl tiff -ppds -slp" 3,534 kB

Total: 4 packages (3 upgrades, 1 new), Size of downloads: 44,234 kB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

Any ideas why it wouldn't have been showing to update foomatic-filters-ppds as to fix the blockage for emerging cups?

From a quick glance I think that has to do with Portage limited ability to build the dependency tree...I think you have to live with that behaviour for now.
