Description Rodrigo T. 2007-06-03 17:14:12 UTC
Two new version have appeared since the last one present in the portage.

Reproducible: Always

ChangeLog says 2.2.6 is a bugfix release, so 2.2.5 could be ignored without problems.

QA Team: This package has Nathan Mahon <gentoo.org@vaevictus.net> listed as a maintainer with the afterstep herd proxying for him. Considering that the maintainer hasn't said anything in over a year and the afterstep herd has been disbanded (so it appears), maybe this package should be moved to maintainer-needed? (I think the QA team should handle this, excuse me if I am wrong)
Comment 4 Manuel 2008-08-09 11:15:22 UTC
Vaevictus told me, he wouldn't submit ebuilds anymore, so I think you can effectively consider him as not being the maintainer anymore...
But he helped me emerging 2.2.8, I've submitted the ebuild and patchfile, the portage tree is now up to 2.2.8

Comment 5 Nathan Mahon 2008-08-09 12:47:49 UTC
Not exactly...  :)
I don't have a means of testing currently, which is a large problem, but not one that's insurmountable for a release: I have people I could get to test for me.

The biggest issue is the lack of a contact. kloeri and ka0ttic retired, i believe, and he was my only herd contact. if there are more herd members, i'm not aware of them, and this is the central issue to my lack of response. I'd be happy to continue "doing the work" if i had a contact to do submissions and such for me.

As I understood you, AfterStep users are wanted?
I'm the one.
I'm also interested in updating my afterstep 2.2.4 to 2.2.8

could I use for this task the ebuild and patch from http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=234262 ?
Comment 7 Manuel 2008-08-29 13:32:14 UTC
Yes you can, Vae did that so that I can use 2.2.8 and I thought it would be nice of me to share it. I am using 2.2.8 on my gentoo 2008.0 x86 machine with no problems so far.

Have you installed it from main portage tree or you custom overlay?
I'm trying to install it from overlay and get the following error about patchfile:

==========================================
missing header for unified diff at line 3 of patch
can't find file to patch at input line 3
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:
--------------------------

|+++ Makefile.in 2008-08-08 19:00:51.000000000 +0200
--------------------------
No file to patch. Skipping patch.
patch: **** malformed patch at line 11: || exit 1); fi; done

==========================================

How should I fix the patch to install AfterStep from custom portage overlay?

Could you upload ebuild and patch you've used to do it?

patches for afterstep-2.2.8.ebuild

To install AfterStep 2.2.8 you should do the following:
1. Declare local portage overlay in /etc/make.conf
2. Create the directory:
# mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/x11-wm/afterstep
and copy the ebuild.
3. #cd /usr/local/portage/x11-wm/afterstep
and unpach the patches archive:
# tar jxf /path/to/download/dir/afterstep-2.2.8_files.tar.bz2
4. Generate the manifest:
# ebuild afterstep-2.2.8.ebuild manifest
and now you can simply emerge afterstep.

the replacement no-alternatives patch

the old patch won't fix the current Makefile.in
Comment 15 Jeremy Olexa (darkside) (RETIRED) archtester gentoo-dev Security 2008-09-17 18:38:07 UTC
hey gentoofan23, I saw you talking in irc about this. Would you like to step up and be the new proxy maintainer?
Comment 16 Rajat Vig 2008-09-30 08:24:34 UTC
With the ebuild of 2.2.8 with the patches, I don't see the /usr/bin/afterstep getting generated.
No other errors when building.
Here's my emerge --info

Afterstep is close to my still favourite WM WindowMaker, so I'll lend a hand here. Bumped to 2.2.9 in-tree with a few cleanups, hope I did not break everything

Thanks everyone!
