Description Jon Bramley 2007-03-22 10:42:18 UTC
mozilla-launcher always runs mozilla apps through aoss which causes my flash movies to sometimes lose sound and then stop half way through. I have removed the aoss from the mozilla-launcher and it works much better (since I believe flash9 can use alsa without aoss). I think this would be better controlled by a USE flag, rather than forcing aoss to be used if it exists on the system.

There's already been a use flag and it was removed because it sucked. If flash sound is broken for you, then you'll need to complain to Adobe, not to Gentoo.

But why force apps to run through OSS emulation if they don't need to? Flash 7 I can understand because it couldn't use alsa, Flash 9 can use alsa so the oss emulation is not required. Its nothing to do with Adobe particularly, just that I prefer firefox running proplery with Alsa, rather than using OSS emulation, and the only way I can achieve that is to edit the mozilla-launcher script to remove aoss.
