Description Vadim Zborovskii 2007-03-09 22:47:11 UTC
New app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs (>=10.0) are assembled from binary packages for x86. In particular, binary media-libs/freetype is included, which is compiled with bindist USE-flag turned on. Thus patented TTF bytecode interpreter is switched off which causes freetype to render fonts with lower quality. This problem doesn't appear for <app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs-10.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -1 ">=emul-linux-x86-xlibs-10"
2. Look at font rendering in Opera.
3.

Actual Results:
Fonts are rendered with lower quality.

I tried to compile media-libs/freetype-2.1.10-r2 by hand and the problem remained. But when I enabled patented interpreter and replaced with it libfreetype.so.6.3.8 from app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs-10.0 the problem disappeared.
