There is an issue with netbeans-5.5-r1 (See bug #160829). I found that renaming mof-1.0.xml to mof.xml (as in mof.jar bundled with netbeans) solves it.

fixed in dev-java/jmi-interface-1.0-r3, thanks. I didn't rename it, but copied, for backwards compatibility with older netbeans.
