My system is up to date: [ebuild R ] app-office/openoffice-2.0.4 USE="binfilter branding cups dbus eds firefox gnome gstreamer gtk java kde pam -cairo -debug -ldap -odk -sound -webdav" LINGUAS="en fr -af -ar -be_BY -bg -bn -bs -ca -cs -cy -da -de -el -en_GB -en_US -en_ZA -es -et -fa -fi -gu_IN -he -hi_IN -hr -hu -it -ja -km -ko -lt -lv -mk -nb -nl -nn -nr -ns -pa_IN -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -rw -sh_YU -sk -sl -sr_CS -st -sv -sw_TZ -th -tn -tr -ts -vi -xh -zh_CN -zh_TW -zu" 4,566 kB [ebuild R ] app-admin/eselect-oodict-20061117 4 kB Using OOo, I could not select any langage for a document, nor use a dic for spell check. So I had a look at app-admin/eselect-oodict, and I get this: root@moon_gen:~# eselect oodict update root@moon_gen:~# root@moon_gen:~# eselect oodict update root@moon_gen:~# eselect oodict show OpenOffice.org configured dictionaries (none) root@moon_gen:~# eselect oodict list Installed dictionary sources that can be set: (none) root@moon_gen:~# Disapointing. Since I activated langages FR and EN, I was expecting to get these two dictionaries. Then, I assumed app-admin/eselect-oodict was the Gentoo way to get dics. Is this a bug ? a missing feature ? a dup of bug #139669 ? or shall I manually install my dics ?
<snip> einfo " Spell checking is now provided through our own myspell-ebuilds, " einfo " if you want to use it, please install the correct myspell package " einfo " according to your language needs. " </snip>
re-emerged this twince since; fact is that thiese messages do not appear in enotices. Einfo get lost during emerge time in the loads of info flowing on screen. Maybe enotice allow to see them in verbose mode, but that is not the default config. also, I wonder if you could switch these lines from "einfo", to "ewarn". To make sure you will read this querry, I change bug to reopen; I would not if you were CC or AssignedTo. Whether you are to make this change or not, re-mark the bug Resolve-Invalid, and I wont bother you any more. An alternative would be to add a USE flag for this: a flag that would be called "oo-dics" and that would imply a dependency upon myspell (choosing the right one according to LANGAGES set up). When users will see the "dic" flag in the suported list, they will understand that dictionaries are "optionnal". In the actual state of things, many other people do not intuitively understand where the problem is (found several posts on this topic in forums). I think a new USEFLAG would be more "explicit" than einfo/ewarn.
