I have nothing to do with this eclass, which is unrelated to the dev-util/mercurial.

This looks like Mercurial leaves an empty directory when the clone fails. The eclass should on error explicitely remove the directory, I think. (I assume the first run had the partition with the distfiles run out of memory, so the cloning aborted).
