sure your rebuild included fcron ?
Restart cron, if it still doesn't work, then rebuild it.

Yes, I rebuilt and restarted fcron. I also reinstalled the crontabs (e.g. systab, which appears to replace what used to go in root's crontab) - the message appeared for the new systab entries as well. After reverting to pam-0.78-r5 the problem went away.
After reinstalling pam-0.99.6.3-r1 and rebuilding dependent packages (using revdep-rebuild and those returned by "equery depends pam"), I haven't had a repeat of the messages.
