I've marked this is "blocker" because it's the part of Gentoo Linux above all others I want to use. I get the same problem when I try to build other software, notably links. I got the problem yesterday, before and after 'emerge --sync,' and the problem persists today after another sync. What I'm trying to build is a text-only (more precisely, no X) system on which I can run xen, and which can be a guest or host. "USE=-sdl" works around my probem for xen-tools (but won't for links, where I want sdl).
