I just noticed in 1.4.2 that the ebuild has (line 51):

                export WANT_AUTMAKE=1.8

Note that this is WANT_AUTMAKE and not WANT_AUTOMAKE. This error (surely) is
repeated in 1.4.1, 1.4.2-r1, and 1.4.3-r1.

I noticed this because I was having problems (re-)building 1.4.2, which
previously works, and I suspect the recent addition of automake-1.9* is the
culprit. 

Fix in cvs for version 1.4.2, 1.4.2-r1, 1.4.3-r1
