Description Javier Sierra 2006-09-20 15:48:20 UTC
I've been trying to emerge world this past week and I got into some trouble... when I fixed most issues a BIg one appeared. Right now whenever I try to emerge any package emerge just quits without throwing any errors. The /var/log/emerge.log file reads like this:

158792730: Started emerge on: Sep 20, 2006 18:52:10
1158792730:  *** emerge --ask --verbose 3ddesktop
1158792742:  >>> emerge (1 of 1) x11-misc/3ddesktop-0.2.9 to /
1158792742:  === (1 of 1) Cleaning (x11-misc/3ddesktop-0.2.9::/usr/portage/x11-m
isc/3ddesktop/3ddesktop-0.2.9.ebuild)
1158792742:  *** terminating.

When i run emerge --info:

!! No gcc found. You probably need to 'source /etc/profile'
!!! to update the environment of this terminal and possibly
!!! other terminals also.

I think the gcc issue may resolve it however when i run gcc-config -l:

[1] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.3
 [2] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.6
 [3] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.6-hardened

 [8] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.5-hardened
 [9] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.5-hardenednopie

 [11] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.5-hardenednossp
 [12] i686-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.1

Any help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated. I have already tried reinstaling portage (version 2.1.1) from a tar.bz2 file... It just doesn't seem to work..

Any feedback would be really REALLY appreciated

Please create a log (it could be extremely large), compress it with bzip2, and put it someplace for me to download:

FEATURES=python-trace emerge --debug --ask --verbose 3ddesktop > debug.log 2>&1

An strace log might also be helpful:

strace -f -o strace.log emerge --ask --verbose 3ddesktop

I'll put it up tomorrow in http://piscis.ac.labf.usb.ve/~javier/logs/ however i think I should tell you that this error happens with every single package I try to emerge. Sorry for the inconveniences

The logs you requested are posted on http://piscis.ac.labf.usb.ve/~javier/logs

The python-trace log shows that the pre-build clean phase had an exit code of 3328 (indicates SIGPIPE):

portage.py line=3052 name=doebuild event=return value=3328

Your strace log shows some getsockname calls just prior to the SIGPIPE that resemble those in bug 147625:

29943 getsockname(6, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(54954), sin_addr=inet_addr("159.90.9.206")}, [16]) = 0
29943 getpeername(6, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(636), sin_addr=inet_addr("159.90.9.211")}, [16]) = 0

Maybe this is another name service switch problem?

Symptoms are the same, so I assume this is a dupe.
