I'm sure this is not the answer, but it compiled and installed by commenting out this line in the ebuild:

Patch which resolves the issue by allowing detection of automake versions 1.8 and 1.9

After spending some time looking at the problem, it seems like the problem is that the 1.7.9 version of automake doesn't define the macros in question.  This patch changes the ebuild to allow it to use automake 1.9 or 1.8.  With this, everything compiles happily.

Fixed now by updating the KDE admin/ dir.
