Description Jesper Brodersen 2006-07-21 15:29:02 UTC
When I try to save a file in gnome 1.4.3-r3, it complains about a xml_sax plugin (in the right place) and saves an empty file (pretty anoying when you had important stuff in that file).

Reproduce: I reproduced it several times (also after a remerged gnumeric and revdev-rebuild). If more reproduce, it is kind of critical for a desktop user.

Solution: I upgraded to 1.6.3 (package.keywords) and it worked again.

It happened after I updated to Gnome 2.14.x, is 1.4.x not compatible anymore?

Confirmed here too. Note I suspect the original poster meant "gnumeric 1.4.3-r3" not "gnome 1.4.3-r3". I have seen this with gnumeric-1.4.3-r3 under gnome -2.14.2

The actual error message on attempting to save a file is:

Error while saving file.
Unable to open module file "/usr/lib/gnumeric/1.4.3/plugins/xml_sax/xml_sax".
/usr/lib/gnumeric/1.4.3/plugins/xml_sax/xml_sax.so: undefined symbol: gsf_xml_in_parse

And the file you are trying to save is overwritten with an empty file.

I have run a 'revdep-rebuild -p' which claims dynamic linking on my system is consistent.

My emerge --info:

janus ~ # emerge --info

Comment 2 Mr. Bones. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-25 00:26:25 UTC
gnumeric-1.4 needs libgsf < 1.13.0 according to:

http://cvs.gnome.org/bonsai/cvsquery.cgi?branch=&dir=gnumeric&who=jody&date=explicit&mindate=2006-06-09%2010:08&maxdate=2006-06-09%2010:10

What's holding back gnumeric-1.6 from going stable? Seems like the 1.4 stuff is a mess.

Dupe of 140758.
