Description Christoph Budziszewski 2006-07-18 16:00:36 UTC
today I ran glxgears, maximized the window, and tried to restore the original size by clicking on the appropriate windowmanagerbutton (KDE, kde-base/kdebase-meta-3.5.3) but instead of resizing, the whole X crashed i.e The session terminates and the login screen appears.

Metalog only saying: [kdm] X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly

I have rebuild the mesa-progs but the problem still exists.

I use:
[ebuild R ] x11-apps/mesa-progs-6.5 0 kB
[ebuild R ] x11-base/xorg-server-1.1.1 USE="dri ipv6 nptl sdl xorg xprint -3dfx -debug -dmx -kdrive -minimal" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse -acecad -aiptek -calcomp -citron -digitaledge -dmc -dynapro -elo2300 -elographics -evdev -fpit -hyperpen -jamstudio -joystick -magellan -microtouch -mutouch -palmax -penmount -spaceorb -summa -synaptics -tek4957 -ur98 -vmmouse -void -wacom" VIDEO_CARDS="nv vesa -apm -ark -chips -cirrus -cyrix -dummy -epson -fbdev -glint -i128 -i740 -i810 -imstt -mach64 -mga -neomagic -nsc -r128 -radeon -rendition -s3 -s3virge -savage -siliconmotion -sis -sisusb -tdfx -tga -trident -tseng -v4l -vga -via -vmware -voodoo" 0 kB

Any particular reason you're using a hardened kernel but not a hardened profile?

Also, please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Xorg.0.log with crash

No particular reason, just thought hardened-sources is a bit better than vanilla (and no need to download new sources every two weeks with gentoo-sources ;-). Is there a problem not using the hardend profile (i.e. put "hardened" in USE, I suppose)?
Comment 5 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-21 17:40:04 UTC
No, there shouldn't be. I don't often see the combination you have is all :)

Give it a spin with gentoo-sources and see if the problem is still there. If it is, a bug should be filed at https://bugs.freedesktop.org.
Comment 6 Christoph Budziszewski 2006-07-23 14:30:50 UTC
tried linux-2.6.16-gentoo-r13 but the problem still exists.
Comment 7 Christoph Budziszewski 2006-07-23 14:46:36 UTC
As suggested: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7608

What happens if you don't maximize, but grab a corner of the window and drag it around, resizing it constantly? Does it crash then too?
Comment 9 Christoph Budziszewski 2006-07-23 15:41:12 UTC
Yes. dragging around also triggers the crash. but only when the window becomes abount half of original width and height.
The crash is not triggered when the window maximized and instantly restored before the "gears" inside the window are resized (got bigger).

Seems to be the same as Bug #134395...
