different compiler-options affect program performance in defferent ways. For example the Swift-Fox project tries to find the best compiler-options for the mozilla-firefox browser. Wouldn't it be nice to have the possibility to set individual Compile-Flags just like the settings for use-flags in package.use? Gentoo is about choice and thus for performance-tweaks (at least i heard something like that ;) )- so this would be a very nice enhancement. beside that some packages just won't compile with several compiler-options set - in such cases this would be also a way to go. thank you for wasting your time reading this proposal ;) i apologize if such a feature request already exists, i did not find anything like this. best wishes, Andreas Kremser
