emerge --forceupdate # add option to get emerge to shut up and do upgrade Xorg x11 is one install the one and it locks out prune depclean clean unmerge etc emerge x11 or etc still often/tends-to: stall<s> even often even under --newuse emerge --setrevdep # for the force above ( do pkgs and revdep-rebuild on auto) emerge --file /root /downloads /url # sometimes newer but stable ebuilds are avail on net before on gentoo # file ====> /usr/portage/$cat/$subcat/$newpkgname or /usr/local/portage #### manual fetch warning (sunjava) ; svn cvs or pkg and diffs if applicalbe ./confures n builds like normal and gets depends etc. xarch ===> adds to portage tree ( --send-prompt >>ebuild@gentoo?) ~xarch ==> adds to unstable tree
