The first time around on 3.4.6, it failed to compile. I tried again with -confcache, and it worked fine. Then switched to 4.1.1, and was doing the '-e system', gcc was the only thing to fail.

I'll attach the full log next.

Failure log from gcc-4.1.1 compile

gzipped log, as it was too big to upload directly.
Comment 2 Mark Loeser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-03 20:12:41 UTC
Is this reproducible? I've had no problems on PPC.
Comment 3 Robin Johnson archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2006-06-04 00:03:29 UTC
Yup, this is still reproducable for me. Going MAKEOPTS=-j1 makes it work more often, but no gaurentee (at least one failure with -j1 iirc).

Not 100% reproducable:

/var/log/portage
root@buck-int:/var/log/portage # find -name '*-gcc-4*'

Comment 4 Robin Johnson archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2006-06-06 20:30:08 UTC
Just reproduced it again.
FEATURES=-confcache MAKEOPTS=-j1 emerge '=gcc-4*'

I'll attach the logfile in a sec.

attachment is a gzipped log again.
Comment 8 Robin Johnson archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2006-06-08 20:09:38 UTC
Ok, I'm seeing some other weird behavior with make due to timestamps and the fact my box is very fast, give me some more time to look at it.
Comment 9 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2006-06-08 22:03:03 UTC
stop using tmpfs and things will fix itself

Comment 10 Robin Johnson archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2006-06-08 22:48:40 UTC
Sorry Spanky.
You lose.
I can reproduce this outside of tmpfs as well.
I do however have another lead on the source of the problem.
Comment 11 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2006-06-09 06:36:55 UTC
still not a bug in gcc
