Description Matthias Langer 2006-05-25 17:23:23 UTC
If i visit
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=36939781
with mozilla-firefox-1.0.8 [ -debug +gnome +ipv6 +java -mozdevelop -xinerama -xprint ] while running xorg-x11-6.8.2-r7 [ -3dfx +3dnow +bitmap-fonts -cjk -debug -dlloader -dmx -doc -font-server -insecure-drivers +ipv6 -minimal +mmx +nls -nocxx +opengl +pam -sdk +sse -static +truetype-fonts +type1-fonts (-uclibc) -xprint +xv ] xorg-x11 crashes immedialtly. Afterwars, the box is only accessable via ssh. Unfortunately i wasn't able to find anything in the logs that clarifies what has happened. Upgrading to mozilla-firefox-1.5.0.3 solved this problem for me. I've been told that this bug does not affect xorg-x11-7.0.x.

There's a thread in gentoo-user about this:

Comment 1 Benno Schulenberg 2006-05-26 04:46:14 UTC
Well, the relevant page seems to have been cancelled, but when I tried it last night there was no problem. An important difference may be that I have almost no plugins installed, resulting in the "missing plugins" bar.

mozilla-firefox-1.0.8 [ -debug -gnome -ipv6 -java -mozcalendar -mozdevelop -moznoxft -mozsvg +truetype -xinerama -xprint ]
xorg-x11-6.8.2-r7 [ -3dfx +3dnow +bitmap-fonts -cjk -debug +dlloader -dmx -doc -font-server -insecure-drivers -ipv6 -minimal +mmx +nls -nocxx +opengl +pam -sdk +sse -static +truetype-fonts +type1-fonts (-uclibc) -xprint +xv ]
Comment 2 Matthias Langer 2006-05-26 10:33:14 UTC
as the only page i know that may be used to reproduce this bug has been canceled, making any progress on this bug seems almost impossible. feel free to mark as (INVALID / NEEDINFO / CANTFIX). i'll reopen if i find a new testcase.

Try this:

export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1

then run firefox from the same terminal.
Comment 8 Alexander Kirillov 2006-05-28 08:32:15 UTC
Unfortunately the problem doesn't show up with the cached page.
Exporting XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 doesn't make a difference.
Comment 9 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-02 22:52:14 UTC
Can you reproduce this with xorg >=7.0? Please reopen when you reply.
Comment 10 Matthias Langer 2006-08-06 16:03:31 UTC
hmm, i can't try as the page has been removed; but when i first encountered this problem i asked someone with xorg-7.0 and firefox-1.0.8 to try the page on his box; he wasn't able to reproduce this error (i think firefox _only_ crashed). so i think that this is an xorg-6.8.x problem ....

reopening as requested - feel free to close this bug again ... :-)
Comment 11 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-07 14:51:42 UTC
Alright, closing as fixed since 7.0 is stable.
