It appears to emerge just fine, now in portage. Curious why you didn't approach this yourself since you are a dev (and I have nothing to do with mrtg). Anywho, it's in there.

re comment #3: so far i've been working only on ppc documentation. just now getting into ebuilds. i didn't feel comfortable enough yet to make that big of a change to an ebuild.
