libgphoto-2.1.99 was released on December 26th, 2005. Most importantly, this release adds support for a lot more new digital cameras. Also note the changes to the build system, they seem to be only minor changes though. Link for more details: http://www.gphoto.org/news/
Simply copying the 2.1.6-r1 ebuild to 2.1.99 and running 'ebuild libgphoto-2.1.99.ebuild digest' seems to do the trick. This includes the norpm patch. The new ebuild merges just fine. I'm still having trouble with my camera (Canon Powershot A610), but support for that was only recently added, so it could still be buggy. I'll file a bug report upstream. This should not have to hold back the upgrade.

Created attachment 85795 [details] libgphoto2-2.1.99 ebuild based on libgphoto2-2.1.6-r2.ebuild I don't understand why libgphoto2-2.1.99 isn't in the official portage tree yet. It's been out for a while now. Anyway, here's the ebuild. It's the same as 2.1.6-r2, except for the IUSE variable, in which I included the new drivers. I hope this helps including this new version in portage as fast as possible. Some people surely would love to have support for their brand new camera!
libgphoto2-2.2.0 released on June 16th, 2006. This is mentioned on http://www.gphoto.org/ - but currently not on http://www.gphoto.org/news/ The downloads however exist.
Now it's officially announced...
Created attachment 89612 [details, diff] libgphoto2.ebuild.patch Here is a patch against previous attached ebuild to build ligphoto2-2.2.0.ebuild I tried to correct the package according to the website instructions but not sure about the part concerning HAL. Any comments appreciated. What's left TODO - java and C# bindings - libltdl is not in the tree so for the moment the included one is used. - while mDNSResponder support is said to be available there is on going work to migrate to avahi. I suggest we wait for this to enable it in the package. - Shall we had a flag for PTPIP or it just doesn't make sense ? I also removed -j1 to emake as I don't have doc flag and I don't want to be slow down by this. Better fix the doc building I think.
I'm involved with libgphoto2 and I work on the C# bindings - they mistakenly did not release them with the 2.2.0 tarball (and subsequently with the 2.2.1 tarball, which was just a quick FreeBSD fix). I would suspect by tonight or tomorrow that there will be either an updated 2.2.1 or a proper 2.2.2 tarball available that will ship the C# bindings. When I get my hands on a proper release I'll see if I can add in a mono use flag. Sourceforge has been troublesome lately, they've been had issues uploading their release stuff...but I'm sure it'll be sorted out soon :)

what's holding back the release?
(In reply to comment #9) > what's holding back the release? > Several things...long story :) I'd just go ahead and prepare to commit 2.2.1 to the tree. A followup release is planned, but not immediately. Language bindings won't be shipping at least until the next 2.2.x release and aren't enough of a missing feature to block for :)
libgphoto2-2.2.1 works fine on my system, and when combined with gphoto2-2.2.0 (just renaming the ebuild for 2.1.6 works fine) enables me to read photos off the CF card of my Canon EOS 30D, while any pre-2.2.0 version does not. See http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-474857.html for my experience, and please mark stable soon ;-) Thanks for the ebuilds, I was wondering whether there was something wrong with my camera.
Created attachment 90348 [details] Ebuild for libgphoto2-2.2.1 Attached libgphoto-2.2.1 ebuild for convenience. One minor change: it now downloads the bzip2 archive in stead of the gzip archive.
(In reply to comment #12) > Ebuild for libgphoto-2.2.1 Works fine with my EOS 350D using the (renamed) gphoto2-2.2.0 ebuild or the kioslave camera:/ on my (mostly stable) x86. Thanks a lot.

Any comments appreciated. Hey your patch looks fine. I saw libgphoto2 ebuild hit portage today but it does not generate hal fdi. Maybe you should file a new bug.
Okay, basically this patch is applied to 2.2.1.
(In reply to comment #15) > Okay, basically this patch is applied to 2.2.1. > Daniel there is a typo in the ebuild (and the patch) it should be "print-camera-list usb-usermap" instead of "print-camera-list usb-user-map"
